about me.

With degrees in neuropsychology and biotechnology, I would not call myself an artist (I just like blending colors). I have always appreciated art, and as a freshman in college I had the opportunity to dabble with oil paints. I find that art connects with my interest in psychology, with the ability to evoke emotion and inspire. While I am constantly learning new techniques, I hope to eventually build a gallery that illustrates the intersection of our minds, our biology, and our emotions.

How did you get into painting?

I never imagined I would like painting because I am not good at drawing. I took my first art class in high school and realized that putting colors together was something that came easily to me. I was excited to have a "talent" and was determined to work at it; since then, I have been working on my technique.

What inspires your work?

You. Okay -- maybe not. But still, each painting is based on a specific family member, friend, acquaintance, or fleeting moment with a stranger.

What is your favorite medium?

I enjoy using oil paints -- it seems to be the most forgiving type of paint as it can be layered and painted over. I would like to dabble in watercolor more!

Who is your favorite artist? Why?

I am in awe of Salvador Dali. I could examine the details of his surrealist paintings for hours and find something new each time. His evolution as a painter is apparent; his early works are classically beautiful, while his later works present drastic comments on society, and it is exciting to see this progression. If you are interested, I recommend checking out the Dali Museum in Florida!

Do you have any painting tips for an artist who is just starting out?

Practice! The direction the light is coming from can entirely transform a painting. One of the most useful tools I have found is to paint a picture in different colors than they would normally be found in our perception of reality.

Why is the picture quality better for some paintings than others?

My earlier paintings are on paper rather than canvas, which is why they have been framed. I did not take them out of the frame to photograph them, so the pictures are taken at a distance to minimize glare. (However, you can still see some shadows if you look hard enough.) Later, I learned to photograph the paintings right after completing them.

Can you paint something for me?

Absolutely (well, depending on how busy grad school is...)! A few later pieces in the gallery have been completed on commission. Feel free to contact me via email or the contact box to discuss details. I am usually able to respond within 48 hours.

How can I support your art?
